Public Affairs Building Seismic Improvements

The project employed targeted reinforcement of building structural elements in order to improve Seismic Performance Rating (SPR) V to a minimum of SPR IV. These reinforcements include interior and exterior wall strengthening at key points such as the stairwell core, for example, by reinforcement with shotcrete and expanding the wall footings to improve the wall-to-floorplate anchoring; strengthening of overhead elements such as beams; and strategic cuts to exterior wall elements to allow these elements to move safely with the building during a seismic event.
