Overall Project Description:

Improvements to approximately 9,173 GSF of unoccupied space on the fifth floor of the Engineering VI - Phase 2 building for use by the Henry Samueli School of Engineering and Applied Science (HSSEAS).

Work includes the build-out of wet labs for advanced materials and medical engineering research and related office space for graduate students. Open labs will be fitted-out with modular lab stations, fume hoods, and lab equipment. Shared office space will be furnished with modular stations. Fire rated demising walls shall be provided to contain noise, heat-generation, and odors. New HVAC equipment, pumps, air handler and exhaust fan equipment shall be installed on the roof.

Specific scope includes the provision of partitions; ceilings, lighting, casework, and signage; installation of lab sinks, eye wash stations, and floor drains; provision of concrete pads and framing to support roof mounted mechanical equipment; provision of mechanical ducting and system controls; modifications of electrical room equipment to support the program; provision of conduit for audio visual, telecommunications and security systems; modifications to building fire alarm, fire protection and mechanical systems; and repairs to building finishes impacted by the work.

Mechanical Description:

Modifications to existing building HVAC system including provision of mechanical ducting and system controls; provision of new equipment, pumps, air handler and exhaust fan equipment on the roof.

University is seeking to prequalify a pool of general contractors who, once successfully prequalified, will be the only contractors allowed to bid as prime contractors on a series of construction projects for a period of (1) year. Each project covered by this prequalification shall:
1. Be managed by the UCLA Health-Planning, Design & Construction department; and
2. Consist of construction work involving one or more building trades; and
3. Have a per project construction value of between $50,000.00 and $640,000.00; and
4. Be performed at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center in patient care areas regulated by OSHPD.

University will also be separately prequalifying subcontractors to perform the mechanical, electrical and/or plumbing (MEP) work for said projects. Prequalified prime contractor bidders shall be required to use only successfully prequalified MEP subcontractors to perform said work on each project. Any prequalified prime contractor wishing to self-perform said MEP work must have also successfully prequalified with University for said trade work.

Subject to conditions prescribed by the University of California, Los Angeles, responses to the University's prequalification documents for a lump sum contract are sought from prospective Concrete & Formwork Subcontractors for the following work:

1. Overall Project Description: The Project is located on the existing Warren Hall and Hillblom Center site in the Southwest campus zone, at 900 Weyburn Place North, west of Weyburn Place and north of Weyburn Avenue. The Project shall accommodate approximately 321 graduate beds and 1,958 upper-division undergraduate beds in apartment units. The unit types shall be a combination of two-, three-, and four-bedroom apartments, with the majority of them 4 Bedrooms/4 Beds for graduates and 4 Bedrooms/8 Beds for undergraduates. Student support space shall include ground level multi-purpose space, common study, meeting, mailroom, laundry facilities. Warren Hall, a 102,200 GSF laboratory and office building built in 1961, and Hillblom Center, a 7,200 GSF research building built in 2004, shall be demolished. The development shall consist of (3) mid-rise Type-I concrete frame buildings totaling up to 591,100GSF. The buildings shall range from 8 to 10 levels, and shall be similar in construction type and design to Weyburn Terrace apartments that were completed in 2013. The exterior materials may include: integral color stucco cladding; pre-cast concrete and ceramic tile trim and cladding; commercial-grade, dark, anodized aluminum sash; and concrete tile roofing. The Project shall comply with the University of California Policy on Sustainable Practices and achieve a minimum LEED – NC Silver and target to achieve a LEED – NC Gold Certification rating.

2. Bid Package 06 Concrete & Formwork Description: Provide approximately 591,100 GSF of elevated deck and slab on grade including foundations. Work includes the provision of all cast-in-place or shotcrete shear walls, cast-in-place columns and architectural columns, all structural excavation, form work and cast-in-place scope complete. Work also includes the provision, management and operating of (3-6) tower cranes, including erection and dismantling; and provision, management and operating of (3) 2 car man lifts and (1) single car man lift, including loading and exit platforms and speaker systems. Provision of all power for the cranes and man lifts and management and maintenance of loading and unloading zones is also included as part of this Bid Package. Provision of reinforcing steel (rebar) is not included in this Bid Package and will be bid as a separate Bid Package.
